Geeky Wednesday: 35mm Geek

Last Saturday my muscle man and I headed to Tuscaloosa to get our engagement pics taken by our wedding photographers Andrew&Sam! I've worked with Sam several times before, but it was great to get to know Andrew a bit better before the big day =) Andrew scouted us a perfect location for the photos, it was an awesome experience! There are plenty of lakes around Tuscaloosa, but Lake Harris is quite a bit off the beaten path, and despite it being a gorgeous day out, wasn't overrun with families and other picnic-ers, we almost had the place to ourselves!

In addition to a wonderful picnic spread, I also brought along to the photoshoot my old Olympus 35mm SLR camera =) I got it from my parents, and they kept very good care of it so it's still in pretty good working order! There's a few more lenses hanging around somewhere, but I only have the 50mm with me, which is fine because it's perfect for portraits... First, me and the muscle man fooled around a bit with the camera for some picnic photos...

I made the muscle man over, he looks so preppy with that vintage-looking jacket! The colors of the lake behind him are so vibrant, despite having the aperture wide open at 1.8 =) After snapping a few of him he wanted his turn behind the lens!

I was a bit skeptical that he would be able to handle the manual focus, but he did pretty good! (luckily, the camera has an auto shutter function, it's like using the aperture priority mode on a DSLR)

After turning the camera on some trees and each other, I decided to turn the camera on our photographers! Haha it was so nice to not have to be the one fighting with the backlighting this time around! The setting sun was gorgeous, but I know how difficult it was for these guys! Oh and they were fighting for position with that massive trash can =P

After our picnic we walked over to the boathouse near by to really capitalize on that light, again Andrew did a fabulous job with this location!! Sam couldn't resist the chance to play with the film camera, and with the camera off it acts as a full manual camera, which led to these beautifully overexposed shots!
I am beyond in love with this shot!! I have a serious soft spot for candid photos like this, and that little lens flair hitting right where the muscle man is walking by is just so awesome! Plus the DOF created by the 50mm, plus the overexposure, plus that little bit of film grain from the 200iso film...
Delicious!

I had to play a bit in photoshop with this next one to even out the highlights, it was a little too bright and a little blue for some reason... but it's super pretty too!!

We had a little more time before the sun got too low, and Andrew had a little hike planned for us for a little different vibe =) We changed clothes and headed up the side of the rocky cliff =) There was this massive boulder just hanging out on the side of the trail, all 4 of us fit on the rock with room to spare (and to shoot!) The view was so fabulous!

Such a fabulous day! I grabbed a few more as we headed out of the woods, the path was so pretty!

And click on over to the "year 4" tab to see my self-portrait for the day!
