Marriage Monday: THE dress

I'm an old fashioned Southern Girl, so no, these aren't pictures of me in "my" wedding dress...Those have to wait until my wedding day hehe...

Instead, I went home this weekend to spend some time with family and we dug out my mom's wedding dress for me to play with! It was so awesome, the dress has been boxed up under my bed since I had a bed lol, so for me getting to unbox it and wear this dress was a long time coming and well worth the wait!
My mom is quite the different shape from me, not to mention about 4 inches shorter, so even though the dress fit me quite well, it was way short and nowhere near the right proportions for my body, so I'm glad I went with another gown for my wedding =) I spent most of the photoshoot contorting my body to hide the hem that stopped way above my ankles, and I was wearing flats!  We're still going to keep it though, in case me or my brother have kids that want to wear grandma's dress... Or if they want to have a nice photoshoot like me, lol!

It would have been so much easier to have gone with my mother's dress, but I feel like I play dress up enough as it is doing so many photoshoots, I didn't want to feel that way on my wedding day by wearing a vintage dress... Unfortunately, because I dress up so often, shopping was way too difficult for me =P I think we went to every dress shop in Birmingham, from "pre-loved" dresses to the big-box wedding stores to fancy upscale boutiques, we went everywhere! (except the shop I had originally thought we would get my dress from, ironically it had gone under a few months before, despite their advertising in every bridal magazine in the area...) I think we went to nearly a dozen stores before finally settling on a dress... That's very typical for me, I tend to want to go see what all my options are, then make a decision =P

My choice was ultimately made partly because of the reputation and friendliness of the salespeople, I adored the owners at Bridal Bliss, and they had a dress that I very much liked. The selection at the store was incredible, when we first went in I thought we were purchasing "off the rack" dresses (as in you get the dress that's already in their store) because of how many dresses they had in their showroom, but as it turns out they are in fact a couture shop, where you order your dress and it is custom made for you. =D And my dress is silk, which just makes me swoon! Yup, I'm a fabric snob, and when it came down to $100 difference between getting a polyester dress at another store that wasn't so friendly vs. a silk gown at a friendly shop, I would say that was money very well spent! Now I'm just waiting on the dress to come in, since it's a couture dress it takes 6 months! I can't wait =)But in the meantime it was fun to hop into my mom's wedding dress for a fun and sentimental photoshoot at my childhood home! It doesn't get much more fun than that =D
